As I wrote in my column in the Sept. 3 Roanoke Times, Hunters for the Hungry is sponsoring a big doe contest this hunting season.
So, here’s that chance for all of you who shun antler contests (because “you can’t eat horns”) to have some fun, help a good cause and maybe even win a little money. (Which you can donate back to Hunters for the Hungry!)
As I wrote in the column, I killed my doe of a lifetime two seasons ago. (I can’t find pictures, but my buddy Alfie Hammerstrom was hunting with me that evening and will confirm that she was a giant.) So, odds are against me having a chance in this contest. But I’m going to enter anyway. For one thing, the contest T-shirt (everyone gets one) sounds really cool. For another, if I do kill a really big doe it will give me an excuse to go visit my friends Barry and Andy Arrington at their cooler when I go get it weighed.
What is your biggest field-dressed doe in Virginia? Has anybody hunted in the Midwest and killed one of those huge nannies?
Here’s the flyer, in text form (since I can’t figure out how to post a pdf)
